How to Point a Domain to GoDaddy?

 3 min

If you need to use GoDaddy for hosting or other services, but your domain is managed outside of GoDaddy, you will need to update the nameservers for the domain. This step notifies the internet that GoDaddy will now provide DNS services for your domain.

Regardless of whether your domain is registered with MilesWeb or any other provider, this tutorial intends to assist you in pointing a domain to GoDaddy and completing all the required steps without hassle.

Step-by-Step: Point Your Domain to GoDaddy

Use the guidance that follows in order to point domains to GoDaddy’s hosting services:

Step 1: Retrieve GoDaddy’s Nameservers

  1. Access your GoDaddy account and log in.
  2. Navigate to My Products or to Domains Overview.
  3. Pick the domain you wish to manage.
  4. Find the Nameservers Segment and navigate to Manage DNS.
  5. Copy both nameserver values that are provided (usually in the form nsXX.domaincontrol.com).

In most cases, providers give two nameservers, and using both ensures the ideal functioning of a feature referred to as ‘pointing.’

Step 2: Access Your Domain’s DNS Settings

  1. If MilesWeb is where your domain was registered:
  2. Access The MilesWeb Client Area Panel with login details.
  3. Go to Domains > My Domains.
  4. Locate the specific domain name you wish to point to and click Manage Domain.

Step 3: Update Nameservers to GoDaddy

  1. Select the option to use Custom Nameservers.
  2. Paste the two nameservers provided by GoDaddy.
  3. Save or update your settings.

After alterations are made, propagation will start. This global updating process can take up to 24-48 hours. During this time period, the website may go down temporarily and this is expected behavior.

Example: Pointing myshopdemo.in to GoDaddy

Suppose you manage the domain myshopdemo.in with MilesWeb, but you would like to host it with GoDaddy.

GoDaddy provides these nameservers for you:

ns55.domaincontrol.com

ns56.domaincontrol.com

In the MilesWeb control panel:

  • Select Use Custom Nameservers.
  • Enter both entries above.
  • Save changes.

That is all! Your domain will be linked with GoDaddy in no time!

Notes and Tips

1. Remember that DNS changes might not be immediate—give it some time for everything to fully propagate globally.
2. Spamming constant changes to DNS alters may interrupt connectivity—refrain from doing so.
3. After configuration alterations have settled, verify the information on your GoDaddy dashboard regarding the domain.

In case you’re pointing domains solely for other services like Microsoft 365 emails (provided by GoDaddy), you may only need to change particular records like MX or TXT instead of full nameserver changes.
