How to manage the DNS Zone on DigitalOcean?

 3 min

Managing your DNS records is crucial for steering your domain, sending emails, and verifying your domain. If you’re using DigitalOcean’s DNS while hosting with MilesWeb, here’s a simple guide to help you manage your DNS zone like a pro.

Step 1: Access DigitalOcean’s DNS Management Panel

  • First, log into your DigitalOcean account.
  • Then, navigate to the Networking section in the left-hand menu.
  • Under the Domains tab, click on your registered domain.

Step 2: Add or Modify DNS Records

In your domain panel, you’ll see various types of DNS records. You can add, edit, or delete records as needed:

  1. A Record: This directs your domain or subdomain to a specific IP address (like the IP of your MilesWeb server).
  2. CNAME Record: This connects a subdomain to another domain (for instance, linking www to yourdomain.com).
  3. MX Record: This routes email to your email server (for example, if you’re using MilesWeb’s email services).
  4. TXT Record: Typically used for SPF, DKIM, or domain verification.
  5. NS Record: This indicates which name servers are responsible for your domain’s DNS (only use this if you’re managing DNS externally).

Be sure to point your A and MX records correctly to your MilesWeb hosting details to keep everything running smoothly.

To link your domain with MilesWeb services, you’ll need to update the DNS records in your DigitalOcean DNS panel. Here’s how to do it:

MilesWeb DNS Values (Example):

Nameservers (if you’re pointing via nameservers):

  • ns1.milesweb.com
  • ns2.milesweb.in
  • ns3.milesweb.co.in

MX Records (for email):

  • mx1.milesweb.com (Priority: 10)
  • mx2.milesweb.com (Priority: 20)

A Record (to point your domain):

Make sure to use the IP address from your MilesWeb hosting account, which you can usually find in your welcome email or in the control panel under “Server Details.”

Don’t forget to remove any existing A or MX records in DigitalOcean that might conflict with the MilesWeb values before you add the new ones.

Step 3: Save Changes

  • Once you’ve added or modified your records:
  • Click on Create Record or Update.
  • It takes up to 24 hours for DNS propagation to take effect.

If you’re ever unsure about which records to change or how to connect your domain with MilesWeb hosting, don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team, available 24/7 to help you out.
