Taking advantage of a rapidly growing market for the best AI tools, OpenAI is giving one-year free access to ChatGPT Go to all users in India beginning November 4. Recently, ChatGPT Go announced the initiative, targeting both existing and new subscribers.
In August, ChatGPT Go was introduced at a monthly cost of ₹399, providing users with 10 times the usage limits. Expanded features include greater response generation, image creation, file uploading, and improved memory for more customized interactions.
NoteDuring the promotional period, any user in India who signs up on Nov 4, 2025 for ChatGPT Go, will receive a free year of access. Current subscribers are also eligible.
It will be available for a limited time beginning November 4. As of yet, OpenAI has not given a deadline.
ChatGPT Go’s launch coincides with OpenAI’s upcoming DevDay Exchange developer conference in Bengaluru on November 4. The company will soon announce its Indian-centric initiatives at the conference for local developers and enterprises. The rapid growth of generative AI tools in India is further supported by the fact that millions of users are using ChatGPT daily. It is important to adapt products for this market.
Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT, commented on ChatGPT Go’s success in India. He said, “Since initially launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from our users has been inspiring.” He continued, “We’re excited to see the amazing things our users will build, learn, and achieve with these tools.”
With over 700 million smartphone users and one billion internet subscribers, India has become a key focus for OpenAI. By the end of this year, the company plans to open its first office in New Delhi. This year, India became OpenAI’s second-largest market after the United States, according to CEO Sam Altman.
Despite the large user base, monetising paid plans in India has been challenging for OpenAI. Based on Appfigures data, ChatGPT recorded 29 million downloads in India in the 90 days prior to August, but only $3.6 million in in-app purchases. Through ChatGPT Go, OpenAI offers increased usage and additional features to make its subscription services more appealing to Indian users after they have used the plan for a year for free. ChatGPT Go was also the first to be available in India.
